under construction!
Based in New York City. b. El Salvador. Beginning in late 60s my family moved throughout metropolitan areas in the U.S. After returning to E.S. in the mid 70s we moved to Canada but soon returned to E.S. We eventually immigrated to the U.S.
I began working with a variety of found and re-contextualized media to explore my own aggregate heritage and experience. I developed themes about convergence of (u/dys/a)topian thought with a fictitious Central American isolationism. This may have been a sentimental processing of my own life history, having left the civil war in El Salvador during my childhood.
My work is often gleaned from a thought, if only inert architectures could echo modern forms and narratives? and an abiding question of context, where do I exist in these larger narratives? An expression of this is the metonymical device of sculpture as model embedded within the concept of landscape painting.
